The URI Sea Shanty Social Club started up 3 years ago and has grown to some 25 singers made up of Marine Affairs and Oceanography graduate students and faculty members, and also members from the community. The group does sing along events, with a line up of some 30 sea shanties, sea songs, and Irish pub songs. The group does 100% fundraisers for worthwhile programs such as disaster relief and recovery efforts, beach clean up supplies, and shoreline access point maintenance. Thousands of dollars have been raised and donated to such organizations as the American Red Cross, the Narrow River Preservation Association, The Ocean Recovery Community Alliance, the URI Coastal Society, the Surfriders Foundation, and others.
